Lacquerite!
Splendid, lively fabrics are treated with revolutionary polymers
then hand-sculpted into fascinating bracelets.
See the Shop sections for more information and to purchase.
Lacquerite is innovative, forward fashion worked entirely by hand. Ideas and techniques for this process, originated by Molly Jackson, utilize revolutionary liquid polymers from a company pioneering progressive “green technologies”.
Artisan produced Lacquerite Bracelets start with fabrics chosen from design studios in London and the U.S. They are enveloped with polymers and hand-sculpted with fine attention to detail. The result is another marvelously unexpected vision producing lively, light-hearted, exceptional accessories.
Lacquerite bracelets are made using a detailed 13 step process done by hand in the MDJ studio. Multiple separate layers of polymers are applied and each sculpted bracelet is hand polished between the lacquer-ish finish coats. This process captures and freezes the brilliant movement of fabric. Each hand-fashioned bracelet will vary slightly. They are one piece, fixed {they do not open}, hard plastic-like, water resistant and fascinating.

The glass pieces are made by manipulating Pyrex/Borosilicate glass in a flame that comes from an oxygen-propane bench torch. The art is known as Flameworking. The glass is melted to a working temperature of around 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and hand-shaped in the flame. Each piece is finished by being hand stamped with the MDJ logo. The finished piece is annealed in a kiln, relieving any stress from the forming, working process and ultimately making the piece more durable.
——————————-
Flameworking is a rhapsody of the natural and the scientific- from sand to glass, gasses to the torch fire, intuition to fine tuned skills.
Molly says what she loves most is “the glass thriving in the flame and the fluid lines of each finished piece. The glass comes alive – dancing between the force of gravity and the whim of the hand. It surrenders its will to me and I shape it in the 2000 degree flame. The material emerges, a design as individual as the person it will adorn.”
Because light and color flow through the glass, it presents a delicate appearance. However, borosilicate glass (PYREX brand) was adopted from the scientific laboratories by flameworkers for its strength and durability.
